1. Prelude

Goals for this week (September 6 and 8th, 2023)

By the end of the first week, what should you know, be able to do and understand?

  1. You'll get to know a bit about your professor and your fellow classmates

  2. You will know what the course is all about and how we're going to run it

  3. You will figure out how to use some tools necessary for class

  4. You will be able to find key campus resources (physically where they are).

  5. You should sign up for a Perusall account and provide me with your username for that and for google apps.

Overview:

The class provides a transition back to school. We'll discuss the syllabus and getting to know one another. This week I want you to:

  1. Make sure you can access your Carleton email (some version of your name + ends in @cmail.carleton.ca)

  2. Complete a scavenger hunt in small groups on Friday, September 9th (to be released by the beginning of class).

  3. Read the syllabus and schedule on Gitbook (i.e. this place). Identify any questions you have and write them down. Bring them to class on the next Wednesday, September 13th.

  4. Begin to use MS Teams (activate, install and login to the class group).

  5. Read up about the Digital tools we'll be using this year. Follow instructions to sign up for a Perusall account and join the class shared library. Provide me with your username for Perusall and for google apps in this spreadsheet.
